Why I Chose eBay as the First Home of Our Relics

There are moments in my travels, quiet stretches between distant airports, dim hours on midnight trains, flickers of candlelight in forgotten chapels, when I ask myself the same question others have asked of me:

Why eBay?
Why would a man who has walked through Marrakesh bazaars, bartered with silversmiths in the mountains of Oaxaca, and collected stories in the relic-markets of Rome choose an online marketplace as the first door into his world?

Recently, one of our treasured customers left this message:

“This is such a beautiful miraculous medal! I am so pleased with it. I was a little skeptical at first buying a mass-produced medal from eBay, but I can assure you that this store is legit and they sell beautiful authentic medals.”

Ah… skepticism. A familiar companion.

Allow me to answer it properly, not defensively, but openly, from the place where MLD Trading was born.

The Marketplace of the People

I have wandered through countless markets, grand ones gilded in gold, and humble ones held together by dust and hope. Yet it is often the unassuming stalls, tucked between the “respectable” merchants, where one finds the true treasures.

eBay, in its most honest form, is such a place.

A global bazaar where anyone, collector, wanderer, pilgrim, or ordinary soul, may set out their wares for all to see.

I chose it because it reminds me of the marketplaces where my passion began.
Where the stories around the objects were as rich as the objects themselves.
Where buyers seek something real, something meaningful, something that feels like it has history or intention behind it.

You do not need velvet carpeted floors and glass displays to find beauty.
Sometimes, beauty hides in the open.

A Place to Earn Trust, Not Assume It

Other platforms (which shall remain nameless out of both politeness and disinterest) offer prestige by association. Jewelry presented there is assumed to be elite simply because the platform wishes it so.

But I have never been drawn to places where one must perform legitimacy.

I prefer to earn it.

On eBay, reputation is forged sale by sale.
Feedback is unfiltered.
Trust is real, because it is built, not bestowed.

Every time someone leaves a message like:

“…this store is legit…”

it delights me more than a dozen compliments about luxury branding.
Because that is trust formed the real way, the honest way.

A Global Stage for the Relics I Find

My life is spent in motion, crossing borders, digging through crates, kneeling in the dust to examine something half-buried in a forgotten stall. I find things that are meaningful, symbolic, faith-filled, beautiful, or simply strange in the most delightful way.

eBay is one of the few places where a pendant found in an artisan’s workshop in Florence can reach someone in Nebraska…
where a Saint Benedict medal discovered during a walk through a small Italian port can be in the hands of someone in Arizona just days later.

It is a platform that mirrors my own philosophy:

Treasures should travel.
Not hide behind velvet ropes.

A Platform Built for Discovery

Some people go to eBay to look for something specific.
Others wander in much like I wander through markets, curious, unsure, but open to serendipity.

I wanted MLD Trading to live in a place where people can discover us.
Where a single pendant, perhaps one with blue enamel or intricate Latin inscriptions, might catch someone’s eye and awaken a sense of wonder.

This is where many first meet us.
This is where they take home something meaningful.
This is where curiosity becomes connection.

The Honest Truth About Jewelry on eBay

There is a misconception, a whisper in the shadows, that jewelry on eBay is lesser.

But as our customer said, and as thousands more have learned:

Beautiful things can come from unexpected places.
Authenticity does not depend on platform.
Quality does not depend on prestige.
And sincerity…
well, that comes from the hands that pack your order, the heart that selects the materials, and the intention behind every piece we offer.

If our pendants speak to the soul, then the platform is simply the door through which they enter your life.

And so, for now, eBay remains the first door, open, welcoming, global, honest.

A marketplace worthy of our relics.

Until Our Next Encounter…

Thank you for walking this path with us, and for placing your trust in the treasures we send out into the world.
Our journey continues, with new relics, new stories, and new wonders to share.

With quiet gratitude and a watchful eye on the horizon,

A New Beginning for MLD Trading

By Matthias L. Deveraux, The Curator of MLD Trading

For years, MLD Trading has been a marketplace of discovery—a trove of artifacts, adornments, and curiosities gathered from distant places and forgotten stories. Each piece that finds its way into our collection carries a spark of that old-world charm, the kind that whispers to those who still believe beauty and meaning are one and the same.

Today, I’m delighted to unveil a new chapter in our journey: the launch of our new official website, www.mldtrading.com.

This new home was crafted with the same care that goes into choosing every pendant, bracelet, and relic we offer. Here, you’ll find a more refined showcase of our collections, an easier path to our VIP list, and a growing gallery of the stories and inspirations that breathe life into MLD Trading.

But there’s more.

The blog you are reading now will soon be reborn as The Curator’s Journal—a place where I will share the latest discoveries from our vaults, tales from behind the scenes, and glimpses of treasures yet to come. You’ll hear of the artisans we meet, the journeys we take, and the strange coincidences that sometimes lead to our most remarkable finds.

To our long-time friends and loyal patrons, I offer my gratitude for your continued curiosity. And to those who have only just stumbled upon us, welcome. The doors of MLD Trading are open once more. Step inside. Wander a while. You never know what you might find.

Until next time,
Matthias L. Deveraux
The Curator of MLD Trading
(Yes, I do notice these things.)
